(FOUR) VANESSA BAYER
She’s only a “feature player” as I type this, but she is already my favorite female cast member. For me, Kristen Wiig has overstayed her welcome. She should have her own sitcom or be in a million movies right now. She’s hilarious, attractive, and has worked with pretty much everyone cool in comedy. It’s time for her to go off and move on. Nasim Pedrad is another newbie, being around about a year now, is solid as a brick but for my money I’d a Bayer fan. She has been a highlight of every show I’ve seen her on and her Miley Cyrus impression has me won over for life.
(THREE) ANDY SAMBERG
The Andy time so far in the 2010 season is a bit low, but he’s still one of my favorite cast members. The Digital Shorts haven’t been all that strong, but still show signs of brilliance. It feels like he’s not being fully utilized on the show. He has to be one of the most popular people on the show right now just based off all the viral videos. I wish he was on more. Here’s a crazy idea. Once Seth Myers moves on, hopefully to his own talk show, I’d be really interested in seeing a Lonely Island version Weekend Update.
(TWO) KENAN THOMPSON
If you’d have shown this to myself three years ago then I’d probably cyber bully myself. I enjoyed the dude on “All That” and I am fond of “Good Burger”, but for the first few(five or so) years of his stint on SNL I was less than impressed. He had this bad habit of smirking and smiling to himself too often. I can understand being the fact that he’s on SNL and probably living his dream. Not having a shit eating grin on your face 24/7 had to be nearly impossible. But over the past two or three seasons Kenan has really come into his own. I’m a big fan of his old man Grady sex tape commercials, “What’s Up Wit Dat?”, and the majority of his camera time. He may even have out-done Tracy Morgan on camera time for a black cast member. It sucks because it feels like his time is coming to an end and he’s just now hitting his stride. That just means whatever project he takes on next should be that much stronger.
(ONE) BILL HADER
For most people, SNL was never as good as it was during the early “Not Ready For Primetime Players” days. Others say the Will Ferrell era was the best. Regardless, it’s always a cool measuring stick to compare the current cast to the classic casts. I think Bill Hader would not only fit into any era, but be awesome in any of them. He’s like a perfect blend of Dan Aykroyd and Phil Hartman, but totally relatable to a modern young crowd. He’s easily the most consistently funny person of the cast.
