(FOUR) BORN IN THE USSR
Regina Spektor was born in Moscow in 1980. She had a lot of music in her life as child. Her dad is a violinist and her mom was music professor. During Perestroika in 89, her family emigrated. She was really into playing piano at this time, but had to leave it behind. Her parents even had second thoughts about leaving the USSR because of her piano studies. They first went to Austria and then to Italy before heading to the United States as refugees. They would wind up in The Bronx. The rest is history…
(THREE) CHARITY
As soon as she reached a certain level of success she started using her celebrity and talents to help others. In 2007 she recorded a cover of Lennon’s “Real Love” for a Darfur fundraiser album. The next year she recorded for “Songs for Tibet”. In 09 she performed the third annual “Roe on the Rocks” to raise money for New York City’s Planned Parenthood. In March of 2010, she put on a show to raise money for “Doctors Without Borders” in Haiti. To push the cause even more she put out a cover of Radiohead’s “No Surprises” with all proceeds going to the cause.
(TWO) INFLUENCES
You can’t argue with her influences. She has gone on record a few times stating that bands who “music is really involved” to be her favorites. These bands include The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Billie Holiday, Radiohead, Tom Waits, and Choplin.
(ONE) TALK SHOW GUEST
Need a guest for your talk show? Regina Spektor is down. She has been on every major America late night talk show. She has done Fallon once, Tonight Show with Conan once, Letterman twice, Ferguson twice, Leno twice, Kimmel twice, Conan’s Late Night three times, and Carson Daly has had her on give times. Along with these appearances she has been on Morning shows like Good Morning America. She’s all over the remote.
