BY MICHAEL GOODPASTER
(FOUR) AL MICHAELS
I had t put some thought into it, but yeah… Al Michaels is pretty awesome. I’ve grown so used to his voice that it’s hard to think of night time football being played without his voice behind it. That kind of instant connection is what makes him so good. Sure he’s had years for us to become comfortable with, but his job is secure because of his insight, voice, and wit. There’s no slight-hand jabber or nonsense with Michaels. He does his job and does it well.
(THREE) REGGIE MILLER
Reggie has quickly become one of my favorite sportscasters today. Unlike Charles Barkley and other old school players, Miller sticks to the focus of the game. From time to time Reggie will tell a story of stuff that went down during the Dream Team era and it’s always good stuff. He knows his stuff and has lived through history as well as it making some of his own. I think we should all enjoy him on the mic while we can because it feels like it’s inevitable that he’ll be a great coach when he wants to take that step.
(TWO) JOE BUCK
It could be the fact that I really liked his HBO show. I thought it had potential, but the guests early on kind of ruined what the show could have been. Joe is a little nerdy, but he’s the type of nerd that you’d still hang out with and talk sports to. He sounds like your normal announcer, but he has a sense of down to earth-ness to him that is very easy to hear. You can hear in his voice that he is loving what he’s doing. That’s someone I want to listen to.
(ONE) BOB COSTAS
There are sportscasters out there and then there is THE sportscaster out there. The voice of sports, Bob Costas is the man. He has hosted the Olympics, MLB, NHL, NFL, and NBA. Hearing his voice speak about anything makes it 100 times more important. I’m pretty sure if Bob Costas read Kanye West’s twitter feed every night that Kanye would probably become so beloved that Runaway will win a Country Music Award… over Taylor Swift. Costas is just that bad ass.
