(THREE) THE KINGDOM
Foxx is awesome in this much underrated war movie. It’s a very realistic take on modern warfare and those that it affects. He just doesn’t seem all “Jamie Foxx” in the role. He becomes someone else on camera and for someone who got his start in comedy it’s a huge step for him.
(TWO) COLLATERAL
Foxx plays a cab driver who gets himself mixed up with a crazy business man type played by Tom Cruise. This movie was intense from the start and seeing Foxx play someone who’s not as strong as the characters he normally plays or even how macho he presents himself. It was cool to see him play someone with some vulnerability.
(ONE) ANY GIVEN SUNDAY
Hands down Jamie Foxx’s best performance. It’s just weird that it came so early and is often unheralded. This 1999 Oliver Stone football drama is the best football movie ever man. I got into a discussion about it recently and I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. It’s just a shame this movie doesn’t get the praise it deserves. The cast is awesome. The writing is tight. And Oliver Stone does some of his best work. This movie made me a Jamie Foxx fan. I think when I watch him now I hope to see a little more “Willie Beamen”. He deserved statues for this role.
