(FOUR) RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE
A guilty pleasure if there ever was one. There is just something about Milla Jovovich kicking ass and shooting zombie-like creatures that never gets old. These movies are the type of over the top action pop corn movies that I typically would shun. While I enjoy the massive detail that goes into the plot and world of the game and ongoing series, I just never got into the video game despite sitting for hours and watching. The movie is fun though. I fully acknowledge that the movie follows virtually the same storyline each time out, but it’s all good with Ali Larter and Milla being bad ass.
(THREE) THE LOSERS
I was surprised by this one. I enjoy the cast a lot. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Idris Elba, Columbus Short, and Zoe Saldana rock. After seeing the movie I add Chris Evans to the list of those who rock. I hadn’t seen him in anything much before and he really did a hilarious job here. The movie was fun and had a lot of action. Like about a dozen action movies to come out in 2010, it was an ensemble piece. This one, however, worked way better than The Expendables.
(TWO) SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD
The Expendables was the worst movie I’ve seen all year and in a long time. That’s right. Eat that Stalone! This didn’t stop the knuckle draggers from going in droves to see the big booms and light hearted lameness. This affected Scott Pilgrim in a bad way. It came out around the same time and more people paid their money to have their intelligence insulted over having their eyes poked out by the awesomeness that was Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. If you lived in the 80’s or even if you’ve seen the VH1 “I Love the 80’s” specials… then you have no reason not to love this movie. Its anime, video games, cartoons, and all the hipster snark you can shake an ironically ugly sweater at! It’s the Matrix for Jimmy Eat World fans.
(ONE) A-TEAM
This movie was not only the best action movie of 2010, but the biggest surprise. On the façade of it all, it would seem like this would be cheesy and quite hokey. Instead it ends up being fun, respectful of the past but unique in its ways, had the chicks, the one liners, the explosions, and a sense of bad ass coolness that a real action movie should have. If you haven’t seen this movie then you’re missing out on a great time. For realzies!
