(FOUR) UNDER THE INFLUENCE
The thing about Rogen that’s so cool is that he’s “one of us”. He’s a nerdy movie lover. He likes R-Rated comedy and isn’t afraid to rock an F-bomb or light up. He has cited Adam Sandler and movies like Porky’s and Bachelor Party for his love of sex comedies. He’s also a huge fan of Kevin Smith movies and has admitted that he’d not be a writer if it weren’t for his movies. I feel ya on that one.
(THREE) WRITER
He did write Superbad when he was young, but he got into writing for screen off the bat. After making nicey-nice with Judd Apatow on Freaks and Geeks he was cast and wrote for Undeclared. From there he wrote for Da Ali G Show, where he received an Emmy. He also wrote Drillbit Taylor, a movie I completely forgot about. Then he has writing credits listed for Pineapple Express and Green Hornet. To top it off, he has an episode of The Simpsons to his credit.
(TWO) SIR SMOKES A LOT
Apparently all the smoking stories and jokes are real. Being from Canada, smoking weed is probably not as big of an issue as it is in the US. He has never been shy about his weed smoking and it’s apparent in a lot of his work. Good on him for standing up for the cause.
(ONE) EARLY START
Seth for his start in the business when he was 13. He signed up for a comedy class and was apparently really in it. When he was 14 he and his buddy Evan Goldberg wrote “Superbad”. When he was 16 he came in second in the Vancouver Amateur Comedy Contest. With this success and his growing drive, he left Canada for America to go after it. I just wonder who actually won the Vancouver Amateur Comedy Contest. I bet they don’t go a day without bringing up “This one time I was funnier than Seth Rogen”.
