"4 Reasons College Sports Suck"

BY MICHAEL GOODPASTER

(FOUR) BULLSHIT
We all know certain college players are paid, if not “rewarded” for playing well on certain teams. They might not get a pay day, but the cars, houses, and perks are there. We’ve all seen “Blue Chips” to know this. Why would a movie lie? We’ve also seen certain teams get reprimanded for this kind of stuff lately. It happens. Most of these players are there working solely to get a better position in whatever draft they’re going to be a part of. The free education is just icing on the cake. I know players have been suspended or benched for their scholastic performance, but I have trouble believing the legitimacy of it all. Teachers can’t be bought off? Someone else can’t do their homework? They can’t be put in joke classes? Major schools cater to athletes. I’m not saying anything shocking, just the truth.

(THREE) TOO MANY
There are just way too many teams. I enjoy professional sports because you get a chance to watch it and know your cast. You get to develop an emotional bond with your team, you get to see a long term story grow. With NCAA, it basically comes down to cheering for a jersey color.

(TWO) RANKINGS
There are conferences, why not just go with those stats for ranking. Why does there even NEED to be a “ranking” system? Take the main conferences, put them in “divisions” of some sort, and then when playoffs come the best teams from the conferences within a division can play. Then the winners of the divisions play until there is one team left. It works for pro sports, why the hell not college? Instead we get a bias ranking system that basically decides on what teams get the best TV ratings.

(ONE) CRYING
This is actually a reason I like watching the end of championship games. For some reason, I’ve noticed this for awhile, college players are little girls. Win or lose, I’ve seen players WEEP after a game. Yeah, I get emotions run high and it’s something they put years in working towards. People do the same in other fields every day. People work towards goals and their emotions run high as well. We don’t see cops, teachers, or doctors WEEP ON THEIR KNEES after they reach their plateau. At first, it was uncomfortable, but now I seek out the criers. It’s almost like a “Where’s Waldo” game, but it’s “Where’s Whiney”. Kids, you’re on TV and you will probably never be on TV again. Don’t let the world’s last image of you be you on your knees weeping because of sporting event.
