BY MICHAEL GOODPASTER
(FOUR) BOBBY
I could have gone with some of his recent efforts of the movie about him and Kevin Costner jet skiing, but I’m going with the understated. In Bobby he had a small supporting role playing a crazy hippy. We’ve seen him do a 70’s character for years, but this one was a full blown hippy and I enjoyed every second he was on camera. It was a fun departure to see him play a full on character rather than just “silly good looking guy”.
(THREE) JUST MARRIED
This 2003 romantic comedy wasn’t bad at all. Here we have Kutch starring alongside the late Brittany Murphy in a movie about a couple who get married out of the blue and go on their honey moon. Both Ashton and Brittany play kind of goofy, but loveable dumb kids. The premise isn’t all that fun, but the interactions and antics of the two lead characters carry this movie from being a bland stereotypical flick to something much more charming than it had any right to be.
(TWO) DUDE, WHERE’S MY CAR?
Some comedies don’t get half the respect they deserve. Like Biodome before it, “Dude Where’s My Car” rocks the stoner movie line very carefully. Obviously the movie would have been funnier and made more sense if they just had the two leads be stoners, but for some reason they didn’t. I think that was rumored and had they actually done it this would be one of the best stoner movies of recent time and I dare say that Harold and Kumar wouldn’t exist or it’d be totally different. The movie follows Kutcher and Seann William Scott as they go on a journey to find their car and rehook up with their lady friends. Good times had by all. Don’t go into it thinking it’s going to blow you away and it probably will.
(ONE) THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT
This is easily the best movie starring Ashton Kutcher. I remember the day I saw it at the theater. I was on some messed up stuff and coming down during certain parts of the movie was like torture. I think that’s what always made me appreciate this movie so much. My drug usage at the time really complimented this movie’s dramatic arch. You can’t ask for more. I did see it numerous times “clean” and “sober”. It’s still a great movie. The script is brilliant and Kutcher shines like no other. This movie should get more credit now and it should have then. I want to watch this again ASAP now that I’m talking about it here. I suggest the same.
