(FOUR) JUST GO WITH IT
My desire to see Just Go With It is fairly minimal, but I’m sure I’ll see it sooner than later. I just have trouble believing that Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anniston are going to provide me with a feature film’s worth of entertainment, laughs, and interest. I was unsure about Anniston in the recent rom com “The Switch”, but it surprised me and ended up being kind of good. Sandler is always likeable, but in these kind of movies I can take or leave the guy. I’m a dude in my late-mid 20’s, this is not a movie I’m going to run out to see. Still, I’ll be open minded and give it a go. The line up is a little bare right now, so this is going to be pretty successful at the box office.
(THREE) HALL PASS
Jason Sudekis is the savior of this for me. Owen Wilson can be funny, but it’s not someone I really get into. So basically, the movie looks weak. The plot is lame, the Farrelly Brothers are past their prime, and this has horrible written all over it. Still there is something about the trailer that makes me at least a little curious. It has a weird tone, that MIGHT work out for their advantage.
(TWO) PAUL
In this we have Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. That’s enough for most people. I loved Shaun of the Dead, but felt their next one about cops was kind of a letdown. But then I caught up on their old show, Spaced, and was in love with them again. I’m a big fan of both guys. Simon Pegg gets way more chances than Frost in the US, but I think Frost has some massive untapped appeal. Maybe this movie will do it? It’s about two English dudes who go on a road trip in America. They meet an alien, voiced by Seth Rogen, and then end up involved in a manhunt. It has potential to be really good or really bad. Either way, I’m there.
(ONE) CEDAR RAPIDS
I don’t really get why I’m so excited about this movie. It looks hilarious, but it’s low key and not going to get a huge push in theatres. I think it’s just that 2010 was so weak in terms of comedy that this one gets extra love. The trailer is the funniest I’ve seen in awhile. There will be some bigger budget, more pushed comedies to come out in 2011 but I think when it’s said and done this one is going to be a classic. I just got that feeling. I hope I’m not getting my hopes up too high.
