(FOUR) GILLY
She’s evil! I’m a fan of Kristen Wiig, but her recurring characters get old quickly. One that hasn’t lost its freshness is “Gilly”. I was thinking it could have been because of lack of exposure, but they used the character to host a Christmas special. I think what separates this character and her others is that it’s just such a weird and uncomfortable character. Gilllllly!
(THREE) THE BLIZZARD MAN
When you’re working on a new album and you need a track to be hit out of the park there is only one option. The Blizzard Man will come in and drop the dopest and tightest rhymes of all time. It’s just a weird character. People expect something else other than Andy Samberg coming in looking like Vanilla Ice and busting out rap that would make Debbie Harry sound like a thug.
(TWO) STEFON
I was tempted to list this as number one, but had a change of heart. Still, this character is great. I’d love to see a movie with this character as the star. Bill Hader, the best cast member of the current SNL roster, comes on as very flamboyant and obscure city correspondent of NYC. He sits in and informs Weekend Update host Seth Myers about what New York’s hottest club is. Then it’s always some completely off the way and random. It’s always hilarious and is easily one of the most popular characters in awhile.
(ONE) WHAT UP WITH THAT
Kenan Thompson’s DeAndre Cole is awesome. I’m one of those people who didn’t really get behind Kenan until recent years. I liked his Grady character, but this sketch is what put me over the line and now a fan of the guy. DeAndre hosts a sit down talk show, but he never lets his guests get in a word because he spontaneously busts out into song repeatedly. That’s kind of funny on its own, but then the chaos that ensues is insane. People dancing, in random characters, random celebrities, Oompla Lompas, Jason Sudekis busts out mad dancing skills, and Bill Hader shows up and is hilarious as any man could be without saying a word. Some critics are lame and say this sketch is played out, but I say nay! NAY! Give me more! Randomness is hilariousness!
