(FOUR) ARMAGEDDON
Liv Tyler showed up in a few smaller roles before 1998 and would make a huge name for herself in the Lord of the Rings movies. I’m not a Rings fan so I’m leaving those off this list. Liv Tyler’s rise to awesomeness starts with Armageddon. She’s Bruce Willis’s daughter and Ben Affleck’s lesbian lover. Yes, I just called Ben Affleck a girl. Anyway, she’s really cute in this movie. She displays a huge likeability factor in this movie. You don’t want her to be upset or to cry. You want things to work out in this movie because you don’t want her to be harmed. That says a lot when the entire world is at stake.
(THREE) REIGN OVER ME
She plays a supporting love interest in this one. It’s easily Adam Sandler’s most dramatic movie and he does great in it. I think Liv’s performance is really underrated though. I think this has to be her first “adult role”. She plays a caring psychologist to Sadler, who is going through some horrible demons. She’s charming, mature, and carries herself like a woman… not a girl. I enjoy her in her full youthful glory, but this was a very good display of her range.
(TWO) EMPIRE RECORDS
Up until this point, I don’t think many people knew Liv from outside of her appearance in a Aerosmith video. Yet, if you look at the poster of this mid 90’s classic you see a VERY hot young woman in a tight sweater and a plaid skirt. It’s almost too much to handle. I’m not a dude who objectifies women, but it’s pretty hard not to lust after Liv from this movie. She has some emotional outbreaks and is really charming in this movie. It’s not a trailblazing performance, but it’s one that I’m always going to enjoy when I come across it. Empire Records is one of those movies that should be seen by anyone who grew up during the 90’s. To me, it’s as close as we got to a Breakfast Club in the 90’s. She does her role well.
(ONE) JERSEY GIRL
Liv isn’t the lead in this movie. In fact, a little girl is credited over her. A little girl AND the young and funny Raquel Castro is credited over her. Yeah, that is ANOTHER Ben Affleck joke. There is just something about Liv in this movie that rocks. She’s pretty much the girl of any man’s dreams. She’s attractive, she works at a video store, she’s quirky, and she’s quick to put on in the name of pity. You can hate the movie, but I think it’s impossible to not get a crush on Liv after watching her in this.
