(FOUR) MASSIVE CROWDS
Wrestlemania is pretty much a sure shot when it comes to selling out. They hit up major markets and bring in people from every state and all across the world. I’ve personally sat in Ford Field in Detroit with more than EIGHTY THOUSAND people. The crazy part is that’s not even their biggest on record. Wrestlemania 3 was also in Michigan, but they crammed 93,173 fans in to see Hogan give Andre a really shitty and over rated body slam. Sadly, this record was FINALLY broken in 2010 when the NBA All Star Game brought in over 108 thousand people to the new Cowboys Stadium. Give Vince some time. He WILL beat this record or at least try really hard to before we know it.
(THREE) CELEBRITY FUN
There are certain celebrities that have been around wrestling for years. Pete Rose, Mike Tyson, Snoop, Kid Rock, and others seem to be around from time to time and have all been at Mania in some fashion. Over the years we’ve seen Lawrence Taylor, Butterbean, sumo star Akebono, and Floyd Mayweather Jr. wrestle in matches. This year Snooki joins that illustrious ranks. The list goes on and on. From Mr. T to Jonathan Taylor Thomas to Burt Reynolds to Donald Trump to Jenny Garth. You’d be surprised by who all have shown up over the past few decades.
(TWO) THE HALL OF FAME
The Hall of Fame has been around since 93/94, but it didn’t really become apart of WWE’s Wrestlemania weekend until 2004. Now like clockwork, before Wrestlemania every year the company inducts a new class of hall of famers. It’s really the best time and gives everyone “awe” eyes. It reminds us of the past, our childhoods, and ours and our loved ones old favorites. It pretty much puts professional wrestling in perspective and takes it down to a humble place before the next night when shit is so over the top and grand that it’s almost intimidating.
(ONE) THEY CALL IT THE STREAK
When you take into account that he beat an old and over the hill Snuka and Bundy, Giant Gonzalez, Big Bossman, Big Show/A-Train, and Kane twice it’s not THAT impressive. Undertaker is currently 18-0 at Wrestlemania. It’s a bad ass stat and for the past six or so years they’ve been hyping and pushing “the streak” on us as if any of his matches were as good as his with Shawn Michaels the past two years. In a kayfabe sense, it’s awesome but in reality I don’t really care. I just hope the streak does end and it’s to someone fresh who could build a career around it.
