(For the “4 For Dinner” segment I take a hypothetical look at four people I’d like to have dinner with within a certain field or other random connection.)
(FOUR) MITCH HEDBERG
I can’t go with all old school comedians. Sadly, Mitch passed away before he could really hit it big. Anyone who had the pleasure of experiencing seeing one of his stand ups enjoyed it. His delivery, wit, and personality were so weird and unique that he could stand out from any stand up crowd. His time to shine never really came, but I’d have loved to chat with him about his comedic goals and get any extra material out of him as possible. He is missed.
(THREE) SARAH SILVERMAN
I can’t go with all old school and dead comedians. I figure if I’m sitting at a dinner table with three ghosts I might as well be able to sit there with some alive. I’m a HUGE fan of Sarah Silverman. She’s easily one of the top comedians out there today and I’m pretty sure she’d dig the experience of sitting there with the other three as well. She’d probably still ignore me though.
(TWO) RICHARD PRYOR
The last two are obvious to anyone with a valid sense of humor and history. Richard Pryor is a genius. His stand up specials are like textbooks for new and old comedians alike. What would he have to say about Obama? What about current hip hop? There’s so much I’d love to hear him talk about that came after him.
(ONE) GEORGE CARLIN
Speaking of which, I’d LOVE to hear George Carlin’s take on Sarah Palin. In my heart I imagine a twenty minute rant that involves the Alaskan Pipeline, Palin, and four Grizzly Bears with just the right dose of ecstasy. Carlin is always going to be considered my favorite stand up comedian of all time. To this day I hate the Chicagoland highway construction or myself and a dear friend would have had the pleasure of seeing him live. His stand up specials pretty much warped my precious school kid mind and made the weirdo I am today.
