(FOUR) 40 DAYS AND 40 NIGHTS
I didn’t like this movie. I went to the theatre with a friend to see this. We made it about twenty minutes before sneaking into another movie. It’s literally the only movie I’ve EVER walked out on. I’ve turned movies off. I’ve avoided movies. But I’ve never purchased a ticket and left before it ended. Years later I’d see the whole thing. I overreacted a little. It sucked, don’t get me wrong. It just wasn’t THAT bad. A main reason is because Shannyn Sossamon is so hot in it. She literally saves a movie here.
(THREE) HOW TO MAKE IT IN AMERICA
This is a weird pick, but I think it has a lot of potential. This show only had a few episodes so far. Hell, she wasn’t even in all of them. Still, she plays a boho rich artsy girl in this. Those ingredients would make for a pretentious bitch in most cases, but instead her take is a pretentious slacker. Not like “The Dude” slacker, but a little more motivated. If that makes any sense.
(TWO) WRISTCUTTERS: A LOVE STORY
The movie is about where people go after they kill themselves. It stars Patrick Fugit, but Sossamon steals the show. Shannyn plays a girl named Mikal in this one. She plays a slightly dirty hitchhiker. She doesn’t seem slutty or anything, but a little too open to the wind for her own good. She plays it with a fragile confidence.
(ONE) THE RULES OF ATTRACTION
There are movies that you know aren’t perfect, but you can’t help but connect to it for some reason. It’s a favorite movie. Everyone has them and this is one of mine. Bret Easton Ellis’s book was great. Roger Avary’s script and direction was amazing here. I love this movie. The characters are relatable, if not a bit too indepth. Like to the point where things are so deep that it’s surreal. This movie has tons of perks. The direction is sharp and takes chances. The casting is incredible. I will forever give James van der Beek a pass because of this. I’ll always think about Jessica Biel’s sluttiness. I’ll always want to see Shannyn Sossamon. She is great in this movie. She’s not too far out there, but she’s not without flaw. I could have gone without the puke, keg, drunken sex scene. But from the outside, it’s pretty impressive for her to do such a scene. Not many actresses would put themselves out there like that. That’s only one minute part though. She’s the perfect dream girl too hip for her own good bad in this.
