(FOUR) FOCUS ON YOUTH
Anyone over the age of say 35 should either be released or put into a supporting role. I know this means a few guys who some would say “can still go” like RVD, Kurt Angle, or Christopher Daniels may get the boot, but so be it. The company had AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Abyss, and all these fresh faces. They didn’t get huge monstrous ratings so they were quick to move on to the WWE outcasts. That didn’t work either, did it? And I’m sure it cost the company MILLIONS more just to prove that point. It might not be a huge cash grabber right now, but in the long run building Styles, MCMGs, The Pope, etc. would only give the company a future identity.
(THREE) DIFFERENT ANNOUNCERS
When I hear Mike Tenay and Taz I instantly lose interest. Taz was never really that good of an announcer to begin with. He was best with Michael Cole on Smackdown for sure. Mike Tenay knows his stuff, but I just can’t buy anything he’s selling. That’s a huge problem. He’s a perfect “backstage interview” guy, but when he talks it’s one ear out the other.
(TWO) BE LESS “SOUTHERN”
I got into a minor debate about this today. A friend said TNA is “too indie-ish” and I feel it’s “too WCW-ish”. I don’t think either of us is wrong. When I turn on TNA I instantly relate it to WCW. Being a WWE fan more so, maybe I just automatically associate “competition” with WCW. I doubt it though. It’s just bland nonsense. The production is cutting edge and cool in some aspects, but more times than not it feels like the same rehashed WCW stuff. There is a heavy “WWE-Reject” feel to it, which is a bit different than the WCW “WWE-defected for $” aspect. I dunno. It could also be the fact that it’s Mike Tenay, Sting, Jarrett, and pretty much the same thing as WCW? Yeah… it is!
(ONE) BECOME AN ISLAND
People often rag on TNA with “They’ll sign anyone from WWE”. The truth of the matter is they don’t, but they sure as hell come close to it. Granted if you’re a wrestling company and people like Kurt Angle, RVD, Ken Anderson, and the others are out there you’d be dumb not to pick them up. That’s a double sided sword the company should really take a look at. Of course this won’t happen because Hogan and the like have things running into the ground. It’s just hackish and amateur to constantly acknowledge the WWE. It seems like every week or so someone is referencing WWE or “their past”. You’re making WWE stronger and look as if it’s the foundation of all of professional wrestling. It’s true, they are… but just ignore them. Focus on your own footsteps forward instead of stretching your neck to see WWE miles ahead of you.
