(FOUR) RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES
I’m not an “Apes” fan. I never liked the old “Planet of the Ape” movies and I really didn’t like the somewhat recent remake with Marky Mark. It always seemed a little too hokey for my liking. I’m cool with hokey, don’t get me wrong, but it was always the wrong kind. I would have disregarded this movie as another “one of those” if it hadn’t have snuck up on me. I ended up seeing the trailer, I saw that James Franco was starring it in, and I learned that it was a prequel to the original. I don’t care about a planet full of apes, but I’m sorta/kinda curious about how a planet of humans would lose control of their world. Just taking a precaution…
(THREE) COWBOYS & ALIENS
I like when random things are thrown together. I kind of like cowboys and I kind of like aliens, but when you say “cowboys and aliens” I’m in. Jon Faverau hasn’t really let me down. I really liked his earlier stuff with Vince Vaughn and I thought the two Ironman’s he did were pretty damn good. While I rather him go back to more comedic and human nature type of stuff, I think he’s going to kick ass with this movie. We have “007” Daniel Craig and “Indiana Jones” Harrison Ford in the leads. Then the cast fills out with Olivia Wilde, Sam FN’ Rockwell, Paul Dano, Keith Carradine, and more. It’s a solid cast, a solid director, and a really crazy idea. I have a weird feeling that this is going to be one of those movies that I’m going to absolutely love and the rest of the world is going to hate or I’m going to hate and the world is going to love.
(TWO) CAPTAIN AMERICA
Why the hell not? I think Marvel does well with its movies. They have a couple flops and a couple good ones, but the track record makes up for any less than stellar movies. I think this one is going to be good. Here we get the origin story of how Captain America came to be. It stars Chris Evans, who is very underrated in my book. He was awesome in “The Losers” and just about everything else I’ve seen him in. He’s got a natural charisma about him that I think would work great with a super hero movie. With Thor, Hulk, Ironman, and now Captain America working towards the big “Avengers” movie you have to be sure they’re going to put their best foot forward. I know the Nolan Batman movies get a lot of hype and are put under a lot of pressure to be awesome, but you would think that “Avengers” won’t be happy unless it destroys the box office. We shall see…in 3D!
(ONE) GREEN LANTERN
When Spiderman and Batman are having their off years I have no problem with a few well done others sneaking in there. It seems like X-Men’s formula and that’s cool. I never had any desire to see this movie either… until I saw the trailer. No, not the trailer that’s on TV that doesn’t explain anything. I’m talking about the five or so minute preview trailer they showed at a Comic Con. I never read the comic and had no reference to the character outside of the logo. I didn’t know the origin and I’m fairly certain I’m not alone. The trailer I saw made it seem really intriguing. I was interested in the story, the CGI looks incredible, and Ryan Reynolds is entertaining. I see no reason this movie is not going to clean up at the box office and build a new franchise.
