(FOUR) JORMA TACCONE
I could have gone with a few different writers, but I’m just really fond of The Lonely Island guys. We wrote Hot Rod, Extreme Movie, and MacGruber. He is also in part responsible for the Digital Short stuff. I don’t think he’s done yet so I am expecting him to put out some more awesome material in the near future. For the more recent SNL to movie writers, I have to go this route.
(THREE) FRED WOLF
Fred Wolf could have been higher on this list. His credits rock. He wrote Black Sheep, Dirty Work, Joe Dirt, Dickie Roberts, Without a Paddle, Strange Wilderness, and Grown Ups. So obviously his SNL “crew” is the early 90’s guys. Lots of work with Sandler and Spade. Impressive stuff if we don’t count his stint writing on The Chevy Chase Show.
(TWO) BONNIE AND TERRY TURNER
This husband and wife team rocks. I almost slept on these two. They wrote Coneheads, Waynes World, Waynes World 2, Tommy Boy, and The Brady Bunch Movie. Three of those are three of the best comedies of ALL TIME. I’ll let you figure out the three. On top of that, they created two very successful television series in 3rd Rock from the Sun AND That 70’s Show. They have more than this, but even at what I listed they’re awesome.
(ONE) ADAM MCKAY
His producing and directing credits are better than anyone elses, but his writing credits are pretty amazing. He wrote Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Step Brothers, and The Other Guys. Nothing on his list DOESN’T involve Will Ferrell. That’s not a bad thing at all. He’s been there for Will’s biggest successes and oddly is missing from a lot of his flops. I’d really like to see him do something with a different lead, but he has proven he’s a comedic genius. All hail McKay!
