"Top 4 Anticipated Kid Movies: Summer’11 "

(FOUR) JUDY MOODY AND THE NOT BUMMER SUMMER
This movie looks harmless enough. In all honesty, I’m supportive of any kid movie that’s not Disney or Pixar. They make fine movies, but there is something sterile and commercial about the kid movies of the recent years. I miss the days of weird and quirky movies for kids like “Little Monsters” or “Drop Dead Fred”. When I think of people who are weird and quirky I think Heather Graham is in that area. She’s beautiful and would make for a really fun babysitter. I wish this movie the best. I’ll never see it.

(THREE) CARS 2
I didn’t like the first one. It felt like a bad TV cartoon, but everyone else seemed to love it. The movie had the voice of Larry The Cable Guy. That’s enough for me to automatically shun it. Yeah, I’m being petty… so be it. I just don’t like the guy. Never the less the rest of the voices in this surely HUGE sequel are Owen Wilson, Michael Caine, Bonnie Hunt, Cheech, Tony Shalhoub, John Turturro, Eddie Izzard, and the awesome Bruce Campbell. If I could get the Cable Guy parts censored, I’d be really interested in seeing this. Instead, I’m going to stick to my guns.

(TWO) THE SMURFS
About time. You’d think a modern technology version of The Smurfs would have came before Alvin or Yogi. Never the less, I’m kinda/sorta optimistic about this one. It doesn’t come off cheesy and seems like it COULD be just as much fun for the adults as the kids. We haven’t have a movie like that in awhile. Along with the little blue people we have human actors in Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Sofia Vergara, and Hank Azaria. The voices of the actual Smurfs are some pretty big and random allstars. I was a big fan as a kid. I don’t want to get my hopes up because I know they’ll screw this up. I just don’t want to believe it.

(ONE) WINNIE THE POOH
There has always been something really special about the Winnie the Pooh books and cartoons. It was a perfect cartoon for the two kids in the world without A.D.D. Laid back, honest, humble, and as charming and full of heart as anything anyone is going to find. This is a movie that I’m genuinely excited for. I don’t know if I’ll see it at the theatres, but I will make an eventual effort to watch this movie. The damn thing has John Cleese narrating it. How classy and awesome is THAT? I tend to shy away from Disney movies, but never Pooh bear. I’m hoping this is the movie that brings this beautiful work back to the forefront. It doesn’t have any fancy pants CGI, but rather real looking animation that we adults grew up with. If they do this right, this could be magical.
