(FOUR) BEASTIE BOYS
If you don’t know who the Beastie Boys are you should probably stop reading this right now, firmly slap yourself, and then go to bed with no dinner. They are one of, if not THE best hip hop group of all time. I love Wu Tang, Outkast, and the greats but I have a hard time figuring out a proper order of things. That’s all subjective though. The point of the matter is they are up there. For over twenty years these three white dudes from New York have made great career for themselves. License to Ill is one of the best hip hop albums of all time. Paul’s Boutique is one of the best hip hop albums of all time. Their greatest hits could be played at a party and I don’t think anyone would get bored with it. The only complain is how they’ve matured. I’m all for evolving and growing up, but they seem to be in denial about their raunchier side of the past. Still, great music and a great group.
(THREE) TOOL
Maynard James Keenan has one of the best voices in rock music history. He’s a little weird and his music isn’t as accessible as others, but his voice is amazing. I love me some Tool and A Perfect Circle and the other projects Maynard gets in on. But in a Tool front, it’s great music. The base lines, the melodies, the emotion, the whole shi-bang is art. Music is music, but great music is art. Tool is art. It’s not for everyone, but if it’s not for you then I’m pretty sure I don’t want to nor need to know you.
(TWO) ALICE IN CHAINS
Despite the fact they went ahead and got a new singer and started back up, I still love this band. In reality, the new singer is awesome and they sound great but it’s not the same. I’m sure old time fans would agree. Never the less, new or old, you need to listen to more Alice in Chains. Dare I say it, but I really think the Alice in Chains MTV Unplugged was BETTER than the Nirvana one. Sacrilege? Maybe. It’s still true. “Rooser”, “Would?”, “Got Me Wrong”, and all their big songs are amazing. Listen to every album from front to back and thank me later.
(ONE) FOO FIGHTERS
I’m not sure if you know this, but the Foo Fighters are the best rock and roll band out there right now. I am a fan for sure, but they’re not even my favorite band. I just can’t deny the fact that of the bands that aren’t considered classic rock (U2, The Who, AC/DC, etc.) that the Foos are the best. They can sell out arenas, put out hit singles, play all the award shows, and STILL maintain credibility. A lot of bands get to a level close to them and they’re brushed to the side as commercial pop-rock shit(see: Nickelback), but Foo Fighters pleases the labels, the fans, the critics, and pretty much everyone. If you don’t like this band then you should drink a cup of cancer!
