(FOUR) HANGIN’ WITH MR. COOPER
So underrated. Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper was one of the best parts of TGIF for awhile. Mark Curry wasn’t Sinbad Jr. just yet, Holly Robinson was hot as hell, and the kids were funny enough. It started out in the “Growing Pains” house, but soon they got their own set. I enjoyed the fun of watching Mark Cooper go from former NBA player to PE teacher to NBA player to PE teacher over and over again. It was perfect because basketball was huge at the time and it was the peek of ABC sitcoms. It was a perfect combo.
(THREE) THE DREW CAREY SHOW
Who would have guessed it that THIS show lasted nine seasons? It did! It was a pretty good show. The first few seasons were huge. The show got tons of attention and really good ratings. I enjoyed the ensemble cast a lot. There were times on the show when Drew was the weakest character. That says a lot because he’s a generally entertaining guy. The last few years were bad. I don’t think the last few seasons are even in syndication because when I do come across the show it’s during the solid years.
(TWO) DHARMA & GREG
I enjoyed this show. It was like Bewitched except for a witch wife it was hippy and the husband stayed the same. Jenna Elfman is just so likeable in this role. The free spirit hippy thing suited her very well. How could you not fall for her? Her uptight “opposites attract” husband, “Greg”, was played by the underrated Thomas Gibson. They seemed to have really good chemistry. Something weird happened with this show. After like season three or so it became so different and weird. The charm of this show faded, but it’s still worth a rerun viewing every so often. Especially if you’re lucky enough to get an early season one.
(ONE) BOY MEETS WORLD
This is one of the best “coming of age” shows of all time. This awesome show lasted seven seasons and we literally saw the characters grow up. Ben Savage came on board and it was weird because his brother Fred was on one of the other best “coming of age” shows of all time in “The Wonder Years”. Ben still kicked ass as Cory Matthews. The show followed the journey of Cory going from kid to teen to young adult. Shawn Hunter was the coolest friend ever. Topanga was a huge crush for anyone the right age. Mr. Feeny was the best TV teacher ever. The show’s peek was during the high school years in my opinion, but there really wasn’t a weak season. Some better than others, but this is a long running show that never really overstayed its welcome. That’s impressive and a honor not many shows get. Seriously, watch the reruns!
