(FOUR) SHORT CIRCUIT
I’m not saying he should play “Johnny 5” or anything crazy like that. I’m not even saying he should play any of the original “human” characters. I think he has both the straight man capabilities to play off the random one liners from the robot, but also get into his own craziness. Short Circuit is one of those movies they haven’t remade yet, but probably will. They might as well go with someone who is pretty much guaranteed funny if the rating is higher than PG.
(THREE) POLICE ACADEMY 4
Again, I think this movie should be remade. These movies weren’t the best movies of all time, but they had a lot of charm. They had a lot of sequels, which is often a sign of milking it. A good example would be all those horrible Straight to DVD American Pie “sequels”. To me, the best one was part four. So I think they should JUST remake Police Academy 4. I know Steve Guttenberg was a bit of a stud. These movies really let this guy shine. He had a snarky, suave, and charming thing going for him comparable to a Bill Murray. I can’t think of any roles Carrell has had where he was a womanizer smart ass, but I’d be interesting in seeing it happen. The thing about these movies were they had a lead, but also a great ensemble cast. Imagine the possibilities with this. When it happens, I want money.
(TWO) THE JERK
This is sacrilegious. I would never want to see this move remade. Not at all. Steve Martin owns this movie in the most iconic of ways. It’s easily one of the best comedy films of all time. I’d love to see Steve Martin do SOMETHING with this character again. I understand why he doesn’t. If someone HAD to play it, I’d want Steve Carrell. To me, Carrell is working on similar movie career as Martin. Some raunchy, some smart, and some horrible family monstrosities. Carrell could really pull off this character if needed. I’d be happy with something even remotely like it. I think I just really like this movie.
(ONE) NATIONAL LAMPOON’S VACATION
Steve Carrell in the role of “Audrey Griswold” would be AMAZING! Seriously though, it’s REALLY easy to imagine Steve Carrell in the Clark Griswold role. The original had tons of great laughs and moments. If you’re like me; first of all, I’m sorry; but if you are then you can think of like ten moments and/or lines from this movie off the top of your head without thinking twice about it. Steve had some big moments with “40 Year Old Virgin” and a few of the other roles he’s had, but he’s yet to really get the proper balance between family and edgy. Clark Grisworld is a character that is not only both of those attributes, but more. A loveable, dim-witted, slap stick, big hearted guy? This is “Michael Scott” with kids and a wife. Perfect casting.
