(FOUR) EDDIE GUERERRO’S BLOOD
It was Judgment Day 2004 and the main event was JBL taking on Eddie Guererro. They had a very underrated feud and at the time I think Smackdown was at the show’s best. Needless to say, I’m a fan. They beat the hell out of each other. At the end JBL was already bleeding, but Eddie got busted open hard. His head just kept gushing blood. It was sickening, but the match kept going. It was just nasty, but something that those who saw it won’t ever forget. I still get the shivers from thinking about it. I’ve seen wrestlers lose blood for years, in person and on television. To me, that was the worst and most notable. After the match they hard to rush Eddie to the hospital and I think even had a blood transfusion.
(THREE) SABU IS HIS OWN MEDIC
In the mid 90’s, Sabu was the craziest person around. You could argue Mick Foley was doing some crazy shit as Cactus Jack, but Sabu did it on a whole different level. When in ECW he had no hesitation in scaring himself up in exchange for a big spot or something violent. Sabu is his own medic. There was one point where he broke his jawbone in a match with Sandman. Instead of ending the match early, Sabu had Bill Alfonso get him some duct tape. He then wrapped it around his head and closed his jaw shut enough for him to be able to finish the match. Again in a barbwire match with Terry Funk. This time his bicep was torn open. Instead of stopping, he tapes it up. Afterwards he super-glued himself back together so he could drive to the hospital and get over 100 stitches in it. He didn’t miss any matches because of it.
(TWO) TAZ AND BAM BAM GO THROUGH THE RING
It was Living Dangerously 98, one of ECW’s bigger shows. The show had a Sabu/Sandman match, Tommy Dreamer/Justin Credible match, and a RVD vs. 2 Cold Scorpio match. Good stuff. Meanwhile, Taz and Bam Bam Bigelow were feuding over the ECW TV Title. Bam Bam wins the match after blowing the world’s minds. Taz latched on the “Tazmission” and had Bam Bam on his way down, then Bigelow plops backwards sending Taz and himself THROUGH THE RING. It was an easy “stunt”, but it just came out of nowhere and blew everyone’s minds. It was crazy. It would be copied, but that first initial “Holy Shit” is always going to be the loudest.
(ONE) FOLEY THROWN FROM CELL
I could have went with some random Japanese death match moment, some disgusting weed wacker move from a low brow indie, or something really underground and obscure. I’m going with stuff a normal wrestling fan would have seen if they watched your basic WWF, WCW, ECW, TNA mix. Of course the Hell In The Cell match. Undertaker killed Mankind. He was thrown from the top of the Cell through a table. His tooth went through his lip and he was knocked out for sure. It was insane and brutal. Later on we see him choke slammed through the top and then covered in thumbtacks. That one point where he’s thrown off and the crowd goes silent for a moment. It’s like one huge gasp. The air was taken from the lungs of everyone. THAT was hardcore.
