(FOUR) FALL OUT BOY
Fall Out Boy makes me want to punch puppies in the eye. They were right there when the pop punk/emo/whine-rock got popular. With being in the “Chicagoland” area, I may have been over-exposed to them in ways people in other regions wouldn’t understand. Pete Wentz has become one of people’s easiest targets to make fun of when generalizing his style, physically and musically. He’s an “emo-rock douche”. Is that true? I don’t know or care. His musical talents have never stood out to me and I can’t get behind Patrick Stump’s voice at all. From the interviews and stories it sounds like Stump is an awesome cat, but Fall Out Boy sucks…. Or sucked… or whatever “tense” they’re currently in.
(THREE) MADINA LAKE
I’ve seen these dude’s live. Lameness. They’re an emo-pop-punk-whatever-is-popular-at-this-very-second band. Nothing about them is appealing. Their music is blandness in the most vanilla of ways and their look seems really prefabricated and artificial. And I’m not dumb. I know about the horrible events that happened to co-founder and bassist, Matthew Leone. That sucks. I guess he was brutally beaten up by some asshole after trying step in to stop the asshole from beating his wife. Good on him for manning up and I’m happy he’s safe and in good health. That doesn’t mean his band doesn’t automatically not suck.
(TWO) RISE AGAINST
Within the past year or so I sat down and listened to every studio album this band released. I listened to every note, every word, and wrote about it. If you asked me if I could recite any song titles or even single line of lyrics I could not. That’s how much of an impact this band’s music had on me. It’s overly pretentious and the same whiney “punk rawk” stuff that people with elbow tattoos like.
(ONE) DISTURBED
I remember first hearing “Down With The Sickness” from a demo cassette tape well over ten years ago. It was catchy and it sounded cool. I even enjoyed it, but then the band lost me. Each song after that was less and less as awesome. They became a mainstream commercial sounding rock band. There was no real edge left. All that remained was something resembling the worst qualities of bands like Metallica, Nickelback, and AC/DC. I don’t know their process or what went down, but it just stop feeling inspired and raw. They’re not the worst band out there, but the potential they have sat on and potentially suffocated makes them suck.
