(FOUR) FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION
Off the bat, I’m not a fan of Glee and to judge it negatively or positively wouldn’t be fair. So, yeah, Glee’s not part of this equation. It was this or Party Down. This cast is loaded with the same “Might Wind”/”Best In Show” players. It’s an all star cast. I love her and Fred Willard in this. They play over the top and I think brain damaged hosts for an “Entertainment Tonight” type of show. They bounce right off each other and there are some really great lines.
(THREE) CRIMINAL MINDS
I really like her work on Criminal Minds because it’s so different than anything else I’ve seen her in. On this mildy-okay show she plays Reid’s mom. She’s a genius like her kid, but she has schizophrenia. The drama and struggles of it all is pretty compelling. She plays it with a very respectable honesty and I’d really be interested in seeing her do some drama on a bigger scale.
(TWO) THE 40-YEAR-OLD VIRGIN
Everyone dug her in this. It was Steve Carrell’s first big starring role and opened the doors for him, Apatow, Rogen, and a slew of others. Carrell gets the glory, but I think it’s also where a lot of younger folks saw Jane for the first time. She did a great job of making you feel uncomfortable while laughing at how out there she was. You almost want to tell “Andy the virgin” to just go for it with her and get it over with. Almost.
(ONE) ROLE MODELS
I have a soft spot for this movie because of the cool events of my first viewing. It’s hard to not like a movie starring Paul Rudd when Paul Rudd is in the same building as you. That said, it’s still a good movie. It’s underrated and I think overlooked by many. Rudd is good and it’s one of the better Seann William Scott performances, but the supporting cast rocked. Elizabeth Banks, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Bobb’e J. Thompson, Ken Jeong, Ken Marino, and others all stepped up in this one. It was a great cast for sure. On top of this is Jane Lynch. She rocks as “Gayle”, the head of the children’s foundation. She plays it with such a smart cheese that it’s hard not to be annoyed with laughing at her antics. Smart cheese? Gouda?
