(FOUR) DEATH DEFYING ACTS
I don’t even think I’ve seen this entire movie. I remember two things about it. It was about Houdini and took a new aspect to him than I was used to and that Guy Pearce rocked it. I caught this late at night and was pretty entertained. Guy Pearce is awesome in roles like this. He lost himself in the character and made it way more interesting than I expected. His chemistry with Catherine Zeta-Jones is pretty cool too.
(THREE) L.A. CONFIDENTIAL
A lot of people will talk about everyone else’s performance in this movie, but Guy Pearce is pretty awesome in it. It’s probably the first movie most of us saw him in as well. He plays a crazy cop and adds a lot. He’d be really cool in another crime drama like this.
(TWO) MEMENTO
This is a really underrated movie. Christopher Nolan kicked ass with this script and the direction of this movie. Even before Batman, he was awesome. The thriller is amazing. It’s a man who has a form of amnesia where he loses his memory everyday he wakes up. Meanwhile he’s trying to find out who killed his wife. In order to do so he has to remind himself in a most peculiar way his day-to-day investigations. This is one of those movies that could be really bad if it’s not done JUST right. Nolan handle’s his side with the writing and directing, but Guy knocks it out of the park with performance.
(ONE) FACTORY GIRL
This is one of my favorite movies to come out in the past ten years. I know I’m almost completely alone in this opinion. I love the way it looks, it flows, and the style. The content of being a bio pick about Edie Sedgwick, Andy Warhol’s superstar was really interesting. I’ve read up and it and a lot of people that were there first hand dismiss the movie and that’s fine. I just like the mythology of Andy Warhol. Guy Pearce plays Warhol in this. I’ve seen Bowie, Glover, and others rock the shaggy white wig, but Peace owns it. I don’t know what happened here. Pearce’s performance was worthy of any award out there that year. I’m bothered by this movie’s lack of success. If it’s any consolation, I loved it.
