(FOUR) MR. SUNSHINE
This show only lasted 9 episodes before ABC yanked it. It’s depressing because this show had A LOT of promise. I found the episodes I saw to be funny and I wanted to see more. Allison Janney played the boss of a lower rate arena in California. She was the perfect self-centered, off-kilter boss. I liked the chemistry she had with Matthew Perry and I liked the fact that Nate Torrence was her son. If this show would have been given a chance, I really think her character would have grown to be an all time great. Most likely you didn’t watch, so most likely you can’t dispute this.
(THREE) PRIVATE PARTS
I think a lot of people forget that she was in Howard Stern’s “Private Parts” bio-comedy. I’m pretty sure this is probably where I first saw her. I’m looking at her filmography and this has to be first exposure to her. She plays “Dee Dee”, the evil mean corporate radio boss to Stern that he and the gang end up mocking and pissing off. It wasn’t much, but I can vividly remember her in this so that’s something.
(TWO) JUNO
I can live without seeing this movie again. It was fun the first couple times, but it was just shoved down our throats too much. They tried to push it as an Oscar worthy movie, but it wasn’t THAT good. It was good and worthy of praise, but I feel like this one of those situations where it’s a good movie, but because of exposure it has become officially “overrated”. Still, even movies like that have some perks. You take a break from it and step back. Then you watch it again and you get a whole different experience from it. One thing I’d recommend is that you watch it and enjoy Allison’s laid back approach to parenting. She does well here and didn’t get any credit for it come award time.
(ONE) THE WEST WING
For 154 episodes Allison Janney owned it as C.J. Cregg. She won tons of awards and was nominated for even more. I didn’t know what I was getting into when I recently sat down to watch the entire series of The West Wing. What I came to see was that this was one of the best shows of all time. Not like Top 3 or anything, but it’s worthy of the discussion and consideration. They had a good core cast that lasted the entire run or close to it. A huge part of that was Janney’s C.J. Cregg. She was smart, strong, sexy, conflicted, good, mean, sweet, and all the attributes in between. She was everything. She’s going to get a pass with me forever because of her work on this show. If she’s in it, I’m going to give it a chance. Allison Janney needs her own vehicle stat!
