(FOUR) ENLIGHTENED
I like Laura Dern. Her dad had a great run on Big Love and now it’s her turn to have some HBO fun. She plays a woman who has a breakdown and then tries to get her life together. It just has a weird vibe to it that seems like it’s going to be awesome. HBO has a great track record for these kinds of things. I’ll watch just about anything they put on at least once, but mostly every second of it. We get Luke Wilson too!
(THREE) HOW TO BE A GENTLEMAN
It’s like 2 and a half men without the half. It’s like the Odd Couple, but it’s not that “odd”. It’s like other bachelor guy shows, but it doesn’t seem too douchey. I like the cast a lot. Kevin Dillon has carried Entourage for a few years and then we get Dave Foley, Mary Lynn Rajskub, and the amazing Rhys Darby to round out the cast. That’s a pretty awesome and capable cast. It’s just that it’s on CBS. “How I Met Your Mother” is the only show that breaks me “No CBS” rule, but we’ll see…
(TWO) GRIMM
This looks interesting, but it feels like an SyFy show more than a full on network show on NBC. The concept here is a cop drama centered in the Grimm’s Fairy Tales world. It’s just weird. Everyone knows these stories from their childhood, but a new “cop twist”? It’s cheesy enough to be fun and looks “smart” enough to not be completely hokey. I don’t know how that makes sense, but it’s justified.
(ONE) WHITNEY
I’ve been a big Whitney Cummings fan now for awhile. She’s pretty great and it’s awesome she’s getting a big shot like this. My problem is that the show seems a little off. I don’t know what it is. I like her, Chris D’Elia, and the rest of the cast. The jokes seemed funny. I would really think this show could be a HUGE show and be hilarious. I just have a sinking feeling that this isn’t the show that’s going to make her career. It’s like if Sarah Silverman was allowed to take over Jerry’s role in Seinfeld…. Only not. I sound negative, but I’m really excited. I just don’t want to get my hopes up too high.
