(FOUR) THE BEAVER
Jodie Foster directed this movie and starred in it. She put a lot of time and effort into the movie. The budget was 21 million dollars, but that wouldn’t be a problem for a movie with big stars in it. This was until Mel Gibson started being… uh… “Mel Gibson”. That’s about all you need to ruin a dramatic indie movie aimed towards artsy liberal-types. The people who agree with Mel Gibson’s recent outbreaks only watch things with Larry The Cableguy…. Fact.
(THREE) 30 MINUTES OR LESS
The budget was 28 million and they’ve made like 40. That’s cool. No one lost their ass or anything. I like everyone involved with this movie. I call this a “flop” because it didn’t blow up like I think a lot of us thought it would. Not like a “this summer’s Hangover”, but I was still expecting a 100 million movie. I expected it to last in theatres for longer than a month. I was really hoping this was Aziz Ansari’s big blow up like Jonah Hill had with Superbad.
(TWO) GREEN LANTERN
The budget was 200 million and it’s made over 200 million. Just not by a whole lot. You know they were expecting normal “summer movie superhero movie” money here. Most superhero movies make tons of cash and double their budget and get a sequel signed and sealed before the flick is out of the box office. I don’t blame Ryan Reynolds, I blame the lack of interest in the millionth comic book character.
(ONE) COWBOYS AND ALIENS
I like Jon Faveau a lot. He seems like a really good guy and I loved what he did with Swingers and Made. He made me enjoy Iron Man and I loved his “Dinner For Five” show. He’s doing exactly what he wants to do and I can’t help but respect and envy that. The problem is that sometimes we get involved with projects that don’t have as much mass appeal as we’d like. Cowboys and Aliens starring Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford? Sounds like a winner. Not the case, though. I’m sure it’ll make its money back in the long run, but you’d think something like this was slated to be HUGE. Not even close.
