(FOUR) SON IN LAW
In this one, all he plays is a tattoo artist. It’s a small, but memorable spot in a very underloved movie. The movie doesn’t get half the love it should and for that I think Flea’s weirdo cameo is lost in the shuffle of time.
(THREE) FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS
In Fear and Loathing he plays a hippie. He’s just a creepy long haired dude who snorts/licks? Cocaine/drugs? off of Johnny Depp/Hunter S. Thompsons? arm in a shady and dirty looking bathroom. It’s just a weird scene because like most of the movie it’s fucked up and surreal. But at that moment, most people mutter outloud “Is that Flea?” Yes, yes it is.
(TWO) BACK TO THE FUTURE II & III
Back to the Future is the greatest trilogy of all time. Part III is a little weak with the whole “wild west” thing, but it’s still a great movie and exactly what the franchised needed. In part II they go BACK to the future. In part III they go BACK to the past. It covers all the time travel needs and does so in a way that no other movie will ever come close. Here Flea plays “Needles”. “Needles” is a bully and he gives the McFlys a hard time throughout history. Most people credit “Biff” as the main bad guy, but “Needles” definitely did his part. I don’t care if Flea has said that part II was a “multi-million dollar piece of trash”. To me, Part II is one of the best movies of all time.
(ONE) THE BIG LEBOWSKI
It’s weird. I think everyone loves Big Lebowski or they just haven’t seen it enough to fully understand just how bad ass it is. Flea is one of three German nihilists who are demanding ransom for the life of their kidnap victim, Tara Reid. Shit goes down and Jeff Bridges gets ton of the credit. Rightfully so, he’s amazing. Goodman is amazing. Buschemi is amazing. It’s just an amazing movie. I think most folks sleep on the weird nihilist characters. For one, they have some great lines and for two they killed Donny! Huge impact!
