(FOUR) LOCK, STOCK, AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS
His first movie is still one of his most known. He would go on to work with Guy Ritchie again and they would be good friends. They both kind of made each other here. Ritchies movie wouldn’t have been half as awesome without Jason Statham but in the same respect I don’t think we’d be talking about Statham right now without Ritchie’s movie.
(THREE) DEATH RACE
I loved the original like everyone else that has seen the cult classic. I loved the over the top cheese of it, the social commentary, the playful gore, and the balls the first movie had. Death Race 2000 is one of the coolest movies of all time. Maybe not the best, but one of the coolest. I was VERY worried about a modern remake. Most remakes suck. While it’s nowhere near the art that is the 1975 original, it’s still really fun. The main reason is the fact that Statham carries it.
(TWO) SNATCH
This was my first exposure to the dude. It’s another Guy Ritchie movie. In fact, it was my first exposure to his work too. I remember seeing this in the theatre and enjoying it. As time went on I lost interest and got tired of referencing it. In retrospect, there were some really solid performances in this movie. Brad Pitt and Vinnie Jones were amazing in their roles and Statham, as screwed up as he was, was the voice of reason in this crime fest.
(ONE) CRANK
Hands down my favorite action movie franchise of the past few years. These movies are just awesome. They pull no punches in giving us what we want in an action movie over and over again. It jumps the shark so to speak about a million times. It’s a movie shot and cut on pure adrenaline and Statham owns it. The sequel is just as fun. How rare is THAT? Now we’re looking at a third? Let’s hope!
