(FOUR) 3RD ROCK FROM THE SUN
Six seasons of playing “Tommy” on 3rd Rock pretty much established Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a young actor that’s cool with doing pretty much anything. If you ever watched this show you’d know they did in fact cross many awkward taboos. The show was just awkward. That’s the best way to put it. We all saw him here and there as a kid actor, but the few years on this show is what a lot of people still hold on to. It’s often “THAT was the long hair kid on 3rd Rock?”
(THREE) INCEPTION
I think Inception is probably the best movie on this list and one of the best of modern cinema. It’s a landmark in moviemaking and all that good stuff. That said, this about Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He did well in it. He wasn’t the main star or even the second billing. He was a key role player and he participated in some awesome scenes. It was cool to see him do action.
(TWO) 500 DAYS OF SUMMER
Everyone REALLY liked this movie for awhile, but I’ve not heard anyone bring it up again. It got tons of nominations and critical acclaim. I really liked this movie. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel had really cute chemistry together. What is awesome about this movie is that it showed that giving Joseph Gordon-Levitt a starring role can be successful.
(ONE) HESHER
This movie is new and it’s really under the radar. This is really one of those movies that WILL catch on and become a cult hit. It’s too good not to. It’s a dark and twisted drama about a kid who is stuck in a really shitty situation. His dad(Rainn Wilson) is taking the death of his wife, the kids mom, really hard so they live with his absent minded grandma. He has a crush on Natalie Portman, playing a really weird grocery clerk and he gets picked on at school. Enter Hesher. Joseph Gordon-Levitt rocks the role of Hesher. He’s a drinking, smoking, dirty, vulgar, metal head. He deserves a shelf full of awards for his work here. It’s easily one of the best movies I’ve seen in 2011.
