(FOUR) SCOOP
A lot of people shit on this movie for some reason. I’m a really big fan of Woody Allen so I’m bias, but I do think this is one of his best recent movies. Scarlett Johansson is really charming in this movie and carries it well, but I liked Jackman as the “so nice he’s sorta sleazy” corporate guy. His banter is fun and he did well in the movie. I’d like to see him in another Woody Allen movie soon.
(THREE) THE FOUNTAIN
This movie will screw with your head. It’s surreal, it’s deep, it’s pretentious in all the right ways, and it tries so hard. It takes on a whole new way of storytelling and the visuals are amazing. There is just something about it that holds it back from being on my “All Time Great” list. It’s just a fantastic work by Darren Aronofsky. The role was originally supposed to be Brad Pitt’s, but thankfully he dropped out. Jackman did a really bad ass job here.
(TWO) THE PRESTIGE
This is like Christopher Nolan’s bastard movie. Everyone loves the Batman stuff, Inception, and occasionally bring up Memento. Does anyone bring up this one? This movie has David FREAKIN’ Bowie as Nikola Tesla! We also have Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Scarlett Johannson, and a slew of others. The lead was Jackman. The movie is about two crazy and obsessed magicians who try to upstage each other. There is so much going here though to really describe. It’s a Christopher Nolan movie, so you should already expect this. Jackman is really good in it.
(ONE) X-MEN
Hugh Jackman is always going to be Wolverine. The first movie was solid and then the rest are all of questionable and debatable quality. I personally liked part 3 the best. The point is that Hugh Jackman did awesome with this role. He got a spin off/prequel for the character too. I’m pretty sure he could still make like 3 more Wolverine movies and like 5 more X-Men before people would get tired of it. Even a bad X-Men movie is better than the best most out there.
