(FOUR) PARKS AND RECREATION
This show has a strong female presence. The supporting cast has Rashida Jones, Aubrey Plaza, and the lovely Retta. The star of the show is Amy Poehler. A long time SNL player, Poehler’s starring role is huge. The show has had a weird rollercoaster of quality, but she busts her ass on it. The times I watch it, I enjoy it. Her character is comparable to the female Michael Scott, but it’s still finding a life of its own.
(THREE) THE MIDDLE
She was on “Everyone Loves Raymond” and made a whole lot of money. Then she had a failed show with Kelsey Grammar. Then I found out she was republican and lost interested. Whatever. Patricia Heaton is still funny and likeable. Married to Neil Flynn on the show, it’s like Malcolm In The Middle but a little “closer to home”. By that, it’s set in Indiana. This show isn’t perfect, but I kind of like it.
(TWO) WEEDS
I love the show Weeds. It started off so strong that I think some people are still quick to quote is as one of their favorite shows. Then logic sets in and you realize that as soon as they left Aggrestic and started doing stuff in Mexico it sucked BADLY. I wanted to stop watching it, but kept coming back because I’m a complete-ist and I still enjoy the antics of Andy and Doug. The problem here is that the star of the show, Mary-Louise Parker is one of the worst characters and TV mothers of all time. The character has evolved in a direction so far from my enjoyment that when I see Mary-Louise Parker on TV in any other role I don’t like her. This last season was a step in the right direction, but there can’t be too many episodes left in this one.
(ONE) 30 ROCK
Tina Fey is not only one of the best female leads in comedy, but one of the best comedic minds out there in general. I recently sat down and watched the entire series of 30 Rock for the second time. I’m waiting for the next season and really excited to see where the show goes. Fey had a great run in SNL and has done some fun movie stuff, but she’s JUST NOW hitting her stride. That’s the scary part! Tina Fey is going to own us all for years to come. When the aliens come and try to retrieve Lorne Michaels and take him back to his home planet I would think she’d be a top pick to replace him. Am I crazy for saying that? Not as much as you’d think.
