(FOUR) PRIVATE PARTS
In 1997 I had no idea who Paul Giamatti was. My first impression of the guy was Kenny “Pig Vomit” Rushton. He was an evil, loud, slimy, bad, shitty corporate man. He played an awesome foil to Howard Stern’s brass style. He was way more offensive than Stern, but spoke in the name of the evil empire that is the FCC.
(THREE) FRED CLAUS
This movie is mainly a forgettable Christmas time viewer. I like Vince Vaughn a lot. He did really well in his role and is fun, it’s just not a great movie. One highlight is how awesome Paul Giamatti is as Santa. He is a perfect Santa. I’d really like to see him take on the role again. He did the typical jolly happy guy shtick, but he also brought some class and pomp to the iconic figure.
(TWO) WIN WIN
This movie should probably be my number one. It’s easily the best movie I’ve seen so far in 2011 and it’s one that I’ll most likely watch a dozen times on IFC at 2 am in a few years. He plays a normal guy. He’s a low end lawyer with the night gig of being a high school wrestling coach. The way he tries to fill the voids in his life is pretty strange, but it’s a really great movie. I can’t say enough good things about this one.
(ONE) SIDEWAYS
It’s hard to believe this movie has been out over five years now. Here Paul teams up with Thomas Haden Church in a really fun wine drinking road trip. It’s one of the best independent movies to come out in this millennium. To me this is the Paul Giamatti that I always think about when Paul Giamatti is brought up. I don’t think about the guy in interviews or the real guy, but the character he played here. That’s a big impression.
