(FOUR) THE BIG FOUR
Since WWF got their schedule set in the world of Pay Per View, they firmly set their feet into a set of amazing shows. It was four seasons. In the winter we waited for Royal Rumble, then Wrestlemania, then Summerslam, and then the late fall/early winter was time for Survivor Series. Because of the tradition I’m always going to go out of my way to see or at least be aware of the shows no matter how attached I am to wrestling at the moment. It’s a must!
(THREE) THE DEBUTS
The Undertaker, “Rocky Miavia”, “Flash Funk”, and other iconic folks made their official WWF/E debuts at Survivor Series. I always thought it was cool when someone would debut on a Pay Per View or big show like this because it automatically gives that person an aura of stardom. It’s like riding the bench all year and being brought in during the championship game. They should be ballsy and do this again sometime.
(TWO) THE SCREW JOB
Forever. That’s how long wrestling fans are going to be talking about the “Montreal Screw Job”. I believe it was all a big scheme that will go down as one of the biggest “works” of all time. You don’t have to believe that. You can side with Bret Hart, HBK, or Vince all you want but the point is that if you know about it then you have an opinion about it. In later years WWE has tried to capture lightening in the bottle again by pulling more obviously set-up “screw jobs”. It’s NEVER as impactful, but the point is that it’s so embedded in the lineage of Survivor Series that you’ll have a hard time NOT thinking about it when the topic of Survivor Series arises.
(ONE) ELIMINATION MATCHES
Who doesn’t love a good Survivor Series elimination match? If you’re a jerk and don’t know what’s up you need to check some of the classics out. It’s four on four or even five on five with elimination rules. The match doesn’t end until one team has had all its members eliminated via pinfall, submission, count out, or disqualification.
