(FOUR) AISHA TYLER
Forewarning… No “Queens of Comedy”, no Wanda Sykes, and nothing from before the civil rights movement. None of that stuff is funny. Aisha Tyler isn’t THAT funny. She’s funny, but she’s on the average side when it comes to comedy. I always knew her from her acting and hosting gigs. It’s cool that she’s a woman of many trades and she seems pretty good at all of them. I’d bet if she got on a sitcom or well written/pushed show she’d be a huge hit.
(THREE) ELLEN CLEGHORN
Same with Aisha Tyler. Ellen Cleghorn is not THAT funny. She’s funny, but on the average side. The thing that gets her the bonus points is that she was on Saturday Night Live. I don’t remember much about her run on the show other than the fact that she was funny when I did actually see her.
(TWO) THEA VIDALE
I remember really enjoying her short-lived sitcom creatively titled “Thea”. In fact, she’s one of the only black female comedians I think I remember from being a kid. She wasn’t too out there and was easy to sit through. She also rocked the role of “Shelton Benjamin’s mama” in WWE for a while. That gets her bonus points.
(ONE) WHOOPI GOLDBERG
I guess you can say Whoopi wins by default. I’m not saying she’s bad or anything, but it’s weird that she’s “the greatest” when you break it into a category like this. I don’t remember a lot about her stand up. I know she did “Comic Relief” for years. What I do remember was her being a bit more theatric with her style than others. Regardless, she made a huge impact… had success in film, theatre, and now TV. She’s a trailblazer and all that. I just wish I could see her do something besides fake smile next to horrible guests every morning.
