(FOUR) THE SWEETEST THING
This is a sweet little movie. I think it’s one of the more underrated “female comedies” out there. It DOES have the rom com slant to it, but it’s edgier and smarter than the rest. The trio of Applegate, Diaz, and Blair worked very well together. They had solid chemistry and the beats and plot of this movie are way more entertaining than a non-viewer would imagine. A big part of this is due to Applegate.
(THREE) DON’T TELL MOM THE BABYSITTER’S DEAD
This came out in 1991. I was like eight years old, but I still remember this movie VERY fondly. In the same vein as “Home Alone”, it’s about adolescents being forced to fend for themselves and grow up and see the world from a more mature perspective. Whatever. It was funny and I enjoyed the thrill of them almost and then not getting caught. Applegate was pretty got in this too.
(TWO) ANCHORMAN
Veronica FN Corningstone paved the way for all female journalists of all time ever. I’m pretty sure if I were a female human being she’d be my personal rolemodel. Applegate is pretty cool too, but the character Corningstone was able to advance her career and tame the beast that was Ron Burgundy.
(ONE) MARRIED WITH CHILDREN
Duh. I don’t feel creepy for saying this because she was always older than me. When I was younger I was a fan. When I became older, that did not change. Kelly Bundy was super hot. She was the hot dumb blond girl and would eventually evolve into the hot dumb blond woman. She became one of the best parts of the show in the later seasons. She proved she could carry a laugh and didn’t have any problems putting herself out there for the sake of a funny situation or laugh. She could have easily faded into obscurity after this show because she rocked it to the point that people had a hard time thinking of her any other way. She managed, but after an 11 season run like that it was hard.
