(FOUR) MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE
They keep making them so apparently someone likes them. The first Mission: Impossible movie was pretty decent. It pretty much showed the world that Cruise can not only handle action movies, but excel at it.
(THREE) RISKY BUSINESS
A 1983 teen comedy-drama will hookers and heavy partying? Count me in! This movie is often praised and loved for the one scene were Cruise dances around in sunglasses, a button up, and boxers. It’s been parodied plenty. The truth of the matter is how raunchy and gritty this movie is for a teen flick. It put Cruise on the map, so it has that going for it too.
(TWO) JERRY MAGUIRE
Cameron Crowe pulled off a really sneaky task here. He disguised a sports movie into a dramatic heart-warming romantic comedy. Cruise carries this movie very well. He makes you actually care about Renee Zellweger and that weird little boy. It’s clearly Cuba Gooding Jr.’s best work, but Tom’s work in it is really undervalued.
(ONE) INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE
There was a time where I’d say that this was my favorite movie. I just REALLY enjoyed it. The story, the direction, the acting, and everything about it was just so precisely awesome. As time went on, I would go as far with that kind of praise but I still love this movie. Tom Cruise is GREAT as Lestat. He’s a sophisticated asshole of a vampire who turns Pitt and then Dunst’s characters into vampires. He’s egomaniacal, yet is such an interesting and powerful character that you really never lose interest. Tom Cruise IS Lestat as opposed to Tom Cruise dressing up like a vampire and glittering in the sun. This reminds me, I need to watch this movie again as soon as possible.
