4 Bands You Should Already Know V.12

(FOUR) POWERMAN 5000
You should know who Powerman 5000 is if only for one really good song. The track “When Worlds Collide” was awesome. It was in the same nu-metal genre as a Static X or Dope or Godhead, but this song still stood out. I recall them having a few other radio singles, but nothing ever as big as that. They’re not that bad in concert either. They play smaller places, but the energy is still strong. And just for fun, here’s the obvious fact… Spider, the lead singer is the brother of Rob Zombie.

(THREE) DOPE
I didn’t think these guys were from Chicago, but in recent years it seems they’ve claimed it as their home base. I’ve been to tons of Chicago concerts where Edsel Dope or Virus was lurking in a VIP section. They’re cool guys and they put on a great show. They had a GREAT first album with their cover of “Spin Me Round”, but there is so much more on the album that rocks. From there, they fell off a little. They keep putting out quality albums, but the genre is at a lul right now.

(TWO) GODHEAD
Another numetal band. They evolved a bit though. They were more so of an industrial metal band, but got lumped in to the numetal group because of the time they came out. Their cover of “Elenore Rigby” was awesome, the first album was awesome, and they’ve done a lot of awesome stuff since back then. Lead singer Jason Miller has a lot of side projects, but Godhead is always going to be one of those bands that will always have a solid cult following.

(ONE) GODSMACK
Godsmack is NOT nu-metal. Repeat… Godsmack is NOT nu-metal. They were out the same time as a Korn or a Limp Bizkit, but they’re bad asses. They’re like post-grunge metal. They’re closer to an Alice In Chains style of rock band than nu-metal. Hell, closer to AC/DC than nu-metal. If you don’t know Godsmack, then you don’t have ears. A lot of their music is used for commercial stuff and they’ve cranked out a lot of solid rock singles over the years. The oversaturation of some of their songs vs. the rawness of their other stuff balances out in favor of the good. I recently heard the song “Whatever” for the first time in a LONG time and holy shit it was awesome.
