She was often a fill-in on The Tonight Show for Carson. They had a falling out after she took on her own talk show on Fox. Rivers and Fox also had a falling out and it didn’t last long at all. She would still have shows from time to time, but did her best working pre-shows and red carpets for award shows. She recently took on the job of hosting “Fashion Police” on E.
(THREE) NIP/TUCKED
She showed up on Nip/Tuck for an appearance and was then brought back as part of a fun storyline. It was the perfect spot for her and she did great with it. I was surprised she didn’t get a lot of offers after it. And of course, she’s gotten her own nips and tucks. Obviously. She got her first eye lift in 1965 and hasn’t looked back since… pun intended.
(TWO) ROAD WARRIOR
Joan Rivers performs anywhere that’ll pay her. I know that sounds bad, but if you watch her documentary you’d know that comes from a different place. She wants to please those who want her and wants to entertain crowds that pay to see her. She is constantly on the road making appearances, doing her stand up, and taking any gigs she can to keep herself going.
(ONE) LEGACY
She’s done it all. You could say she “sold out”, but that’s not really fair. She’d do anything, but she still brings 100% to everything. She’s never really strayed away from her edge or from letting her sometimes controversial opinions known. She has a star on the Walk of Fame, she has an Emmy, she was nominated for a Tony, she has written books, and is going to be considered an all-time great as long as you’re asking this guy… and millions of others.
