(FOUR) TV FUNHOUSE
I don’t know what the deal is. I don’t know WHY they don’t have TV Funhouse regularly anymore. I’m sure there is a reason why out there somewhere. I just want it back. If not TV Funhouse then something else that’s a third party comedy short. It’s like the Digital Shorts replaced the TV Funhouse spots, but I think there is room for all.
(THREE) ALUMNI SHOWS
Dana Carvey hosted not too long ago and Jon Lovitz showed up. Jimmy Fallon recently hosted and pretty much everyone from his cast showed up. We’ll still occasionally get a Dan Ackroyd or Chevy Chase or Bill Murray pop in. How crazy would the ratings be for alumni shows? It could be a big annual event or a once every two months thing, but it would be great to see a show where it’s a mix of all the eras.
(TWO) NEW WEEKEND UPDATE ANCHOR(S)
Seth Meyers is awesome. I’m a big fan of his and I can’t wait to see what his career leads him to next. He should have his own talk show. It’s just about that time for him to move on. They need new anchors. I said that as plural because I’d like to a see a return to two anchors. My picks are Jay Pharaoh and Vanessa Bayer. Pretty much any combo of the younger cast would work for me. I’d also be cool with the amazing idea of a “Lonely Island” Weekend Update.
(ONE) MORE OBSCURE HOST/LESS OBSCURE MUSIC
Every year it seems like SNL brings in indie bands that only like 10% of the viewing audience know or a pop star that’s not going to catch on no matter how much their record label pries. This just about always sucks. They should focus on getting better music from more well established acts. The musical guests used to be just as important as the host, but it’s down to like three or four good acts a year. On the hosting side, it’s the opposite. They seem to getting the same people and the same people from the same crowds. If someone makes a movie with a cast member then it’s almost a sure shot you’ll host. It seems that way. It’d be cool to see a little bit more variety. Why not some lesser known stand up comics like an Aziz Ansari or a Reggie Watts or a Doug Benson? Why not some supporting stars or random others from TV like a Craig Robinson, a Jeremy Sisto, Michael C. Hall, Busy Philips, Colby Smolders, Peter Krause, Wendell Pierce, or… for fucks sake… Louis CK!!!
