(FOUR) AMERICAN GANGSTER
I could have went with a lot of guilty pleasure movies, but I wanted to take notice in a small performance Cuba Gooding Jr. had a few years ago. He played the flashy and notorious Nicky Barnes. He’s battling Denzel over drug stuff and was apparently a bad ass. Cuba made it interesting and I was surprised to see him pop up in this movie the first time I saw it.
(THREE) WHAT DREAMS MAY COME
Cuba Gooding Jr is almost magical in this movie. It’s right after he’s starting to get some serious attention and he’s cast in this really surreal drama movie. I’ve not seen it in a million years and I barely remember ANY of it, but I always remembered it as a good movie. People tell me it’s great and I need to rewatch it. Maybe I will.
(TWO) BOYZ N THE HOOD
His performance in this movie was good stuff. I still can’t help but laugh at the weird intensity in the scene where Cuba is crying and punching the air in a heat of rage after being wrongfully roughed up by the cops. Another movie people forget about these days.
(ONE) JERRY MAGUIRE
Dude won his Oscar with this one. It’s obviously he’s best work. He’s great in this movie. He plays Rod Tidwell, a washed up egotistical pro football player. His interactions with Tom Cruise were some of the biggest movies in movie history. The whole “Show me the money!” line was part of the lexicon for awhile. The whole “quan” thing was pretty big too. Cuba’s intensity and charisma in this amazing.
