(FOUR) VOICE
Mary J Blige is one of the best R&B vocalists of all time. She is one of the best vocalists of all time in general. Her voice crosses genres and hits the soul in spots you didn’t think music could hit. She has nine Grammy Awards, four AMAs, and eight albums that went MULTI-platinum. The numbers speak for themselves, but all you have to do is listen.
(THREE) ACTRESS
She doesn’t get out there and act too much, but when she does she does it well. She made her acting debut in 98 on The Jamie Foxx Show. She kept at it and in 01 she starred in Prison Song and made a cameo on Lifetime’s “Strong Medicine”. She would eventually find herself on stage acting and then would pop up on TV shows for awhile like Entourage or Ghost Whisperers or 30 Rock. She’s in the new Tom Cruise movie “Rock of Ages”. I bet she doesn’t go unnoticed.
(TWO) SPOKESMODEL
Mary has had endorsements that would make Derrick Jeter applaud. She has had contracts with Reebok, Air Jordan, Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Gap, Target, American Express, AT&T, Apple, Chevrolet, and more. She has her own record label, perfumes, TV and film projects, and about another ten things going on all at once.
(ONE) CHARITY WORK
Mary J. Blige is not shy about lending a hand and doing what she can for causes she believes in. She has lent her voice to help raise money for AIDS awareness, women foundations, and more. She started selling a perfume to benefit her foundation for sending women to college. Those are just some of the causes. I can’t think of many telethon events be it Katrina, Haiti, 9/11, or any of the big ones in recent years that didn’t have her contributions on some level.
