(FOUR) LORNE DAVID LIPOWITZ
That’s the dude’s real name. I dare you to call him that. He was born with “that name” in Toronto. He went to college up there and majored in English. In 1968 he moved to LA to work as a writer on Laugh-In and then onto a few other shows. In 75, SNL would be born as “NBC’s Saturday Night”.
(THREE) AMERICAN
He moved to LA in 68, but wouldn’t become a legal citizen of the United States until 1987. His children were born in America and that’s where he spent most of his time. He is obviously into politics as his job forces him to be. In result he has shown support to certain campaigns. His contributions have gone to Barack Obama, Chris Dodd, Sonny Landham, and John McCain over the years. That’s a pretty mixed bag.
(TWO) INFLUENCE
A lot of people know that Dr. Evil from Austin Powers is partly based on Lorne Michaels. The Kids In The Hall had a character named “Don Roritor” that’s based on Lorne. Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin both have separately admitted to the Jack Donaghy character on 30 Rock is based on Michaels as well. His personality leaves a lasting effect.
(ONE) PRODUCER
Obviously he’s the main producer and creator of Saturday Night Live. It doesn’t end there. In 1979 Lorne Michaels started a production company called “Broadway Video”. It produced Kids In The Hall, Waynes World, Three Amigos, Coneheads, Tommy Boy, Black Sheep, Hot Rod, Baby Mama, The Ladies Man, The New Show, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, 30 Rock, Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Portlandia, Up All Night, and about a million other projects.
