(FOUR) ROOTS
He was born in Cambridgeshire, England and would move to Australia at a really young age. He took to athletics in school. In his teens to his early 20’s, Guy was a competitive bodybuilder and was really into fencing. Meanwhile, he got into theatre. When he was 17 he auditioned for his first film role and got it. From there, he got more into acting.
(THREE) STONERS > EARLY ACTING
His first big role was on Australian soap opera “Neighbours”. He was on the show for a few years and did well for himself. He’d get a few other roles in the late 80’s and early 90’s before breaking through to the American mainstream with a role as a drag queen in “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert”. The movie gained him a lot of attention. Huge roles would follow.
(TWO) VARIED WORK
Guy Pearce doesn’t seem to stick to any specific genre. He goes after roles that seem interesting, which often results in him playing various roles in various styles of movies. I’ve seen him do serious drama, action, thriller, comedy, blockbusters, and gritty indies. He is an awesome performer. I think his best work is STILL ahead of him, which says a whole lot.
(ONE) THE BEST WARHOL?
This is one of my favorite movies to come out in the past ten years. I know I’m almost completely alone in this opinion. I love the way it looks, it flows, and the style. The content of being a bio pick about Edie Sedgwick, Andy Warhol’s superstar was really interesting. I’ve read up and it and a lot of people that were there first hand dismiss the movie and that’s fine. I just like the mythology of Andy Warhol. Guy Pearce plays Warhol in this. I’ve seen Bowie, Glover, and others rock the shaggy white wig, but Peace owns it. I don’t know what happened here. Pearce’s performance was worthy of any award out there that year. I’m bothered by this movie’s lack of success. If it’s any consolation, I loved it.
