(FOUR) FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH
I don’t even really remember a specific smoking scene in this movie. I could have gone with plenty more. I didn’t want to flat out include every scene from a Cheech and Chong movie. I go with this because I remember the introduction scene of Spicolli very fondly. The van door opens and out bursts a cloud of smoke and out falls Spicolli. You don’t have to “know”… but you “know”.
(THREE) BREAKFAST CLUB
Despite it being stuffed in “Johnson’s pants”, this had to be some great weed. These kids smoked it and had a life changing dance scene. They bonded in deep ways, they had some synchronized dance moves, and somehow Emilio Estevez’s primal scream can shatter the fuck out of some glass.
(TWO) CADDYSHACK
The scene itself is pretty cool, but the story behind it is what makes it iconic to me. Bill Murray and Chevy Chase hated each other at the time. They had a brawl backstage at SNL and nothing was ever really resolved. These two were in the movie together. Chase played Ty Webb the rich playboy funny guy and Murray played Carl Spackler, the crazy slack jawed groundskeeper. They have a lone encounter. Apparently Murray, Chase, and Harold Ramis had lunch and wrote the scene on the fly. The entire scene revolves around the two sharing in a smoke session.
(ONE) REVENGE OF THE NERDS
This was my favorite as a kid. Yep. This was my favorite weed scene as a kid. Nothing too heinous about that. I just really really dug Revenge of the Nerds. It’s one of my favorite movies of all time. The nerds are having a party with the Omega Mus and it’s not going so well. They have to impress Jefferson, the frat advisor, so the party is important. With no options left, they casually decide to smoke up. I remember this scene as a kid and enjoying how the gang was acting. As an adult I appreciate it on a different level. Those are some BIG “wonder joints” as the fine thespian Sir. Curtis Armstrong proclaimed.
