(FOUR) COMEDY BANG BANG
These are the podcast that aren’t my favorite, but I still manage to stay subscribed and up to date on them. I sorta like them and still support them… but yeah… they sorta suck. That said, Scott Aukerman is a genius. I dig his works and his show is pretty good. I just think the Comedy Bang Bang podcast is a tad bit overrated. It seems like people hold it on the same level of awesomeness as a WTF. It’s not. It’s still good when the guests are good. When he gets Paul F. Tompkins on the show you’ll probably need a change of pants from wetting yourself in gleeful laughter. Scott pulls in some really cool guests. I just need to be in the right place mentally and humorously to want to put in the hour every week for this. I’m probably a once or twice every two months listener.
(THREE) THE TODD GLASS SHOW
Todd Glass is hilarious. I just can’t handle two hours of him making an inside joke about an inside joke of an inside joke. Sure if you get in on it, it’s great but it’s gotten too damn exhausting. The guests aren’t all that awesome in the past few months and Todd is way different. When I first listened I hated it… then I grew to love it. Now I can live with or without it. I’ll check in on the show and download it most weeks. Half the time I never finish it and a good portion of the time I get like a half hour in and end up moving on because I’m not connected to the discussion or gags at all. The thing is though… when this show is “on”, it’s the greatest thing ever. It’s just “on” less than it was a few months ago.
(TWO) MAKING IT
“Making It With Riki Lindhome” was one of the first podcasts I really got into on a weekly basis. I enjoyed listening to her talk to interesting guests in the entertainment business. It was all good and fun for a while, but after a while I just stopped listening. There’s no point. It’s the same thing every time. Riki will basically go into detail to relate herself to whoever is on if not try to get in good and get more gigs for herself. Then the guest will speak and she’ll throw in little boring and played our radio-host-like interjections. That scene in Waynes World 2 where the host isn’t really listening and Wayne and Garth start making for of the host… Yeah, I’m waiting for THAT to happen. To be fair, I stopped listening so it may have. The thing is that I’m not closed off to it. I keep up with who’s on the show and if someone I wanted to check out was on it I’d deal with it. Riki is cool though. Garfunkel and Oats too!
(ONE) MOHR STORIES
I used to really dig this show, but my interest in it quickly went away once the guests weren’t awesome. I enjoyed when Dave Attell, Colin Quinn, Patrice O’Neal, Jeff Garlin, and Kevin Nealon were on. Other folks? Not so much. When I’m not a big fan or really interested in what the guest has to say this podcast has become almost unbearable. Jay seems cool and all, but his banter and rambles have become really grating. I’ve gotten to the point where when I see a new episode has been uploaded I sorta hold my breath hoping the guest isn’t someone I think is awesome. If it is, I’ll listen. It’s not like offensively bad and I do laugh here and there, but it just feels like a task now to click and devote an extended amount of time to Mohr.
