(FOUR) SPAWN
I was never into comic books growing up. I had a short phase where I did, but it never stuck as much as basketball cards. One series I was hooked on was Spawn. It was just starting out when I got on board. The movie was awesome and all, but the books were great. I had the first 17 or so, but never went any farther. Spawn was barely a “hero” and his backstory and origin was as fucked up as any serious drama or thriller. You don’t hear much about the character anymore. I don’t know if it died out or anything, but I would love to see a resurgence of this character.
(THREE) WOLVERINE
Despite the man being named “Logan”, he’s still pretty bad ass. He’s like the good guy version of Freddy Krueger mixed with a… well, a wolverine. This mutant dude has claws coming from his hands and he has crazy sideburns… how is that not at least REALLY cool?
(TWO) IRON MAN
I didn’t care about Iron Man until the movies. Why would I? Unless you were into the books, you had no frame of reference. No cartoons, no movies, no anything. It was just on the pages of an already oversaturated comic book market. The movies won me over and made me look back into the lineage a whole lot more. Tony Stark was sorta like Batman, but less tragic and more flamboyant Rockstar-type. How can you NOT like Iron Man?
(ONE) BATMAN
Who is cooler than Batman? In ANY incarnation, Batman is cooler than all. Adam West, Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, and Christian Bale all brought their own style to Batman but at the end of the day the cape, the mask, and the cave is what makes it. The backstory is fun, the best superhero movies come from the franchise, and like Tony Stark, Bruce Wayne knows how to party. He has to face off against the best super hero villains and he still manages to do what’s best. Superman may be older and more “classic”, but Krypton boy doesn’t hold a candle to Batman.
