(FOUR) NO MORE REMAKES, REHASHES, OR REIMAGININGS
Remember when Tim Burton was creative? Those were the days. We got fun and unique stuff like Edward Scissorhands, Mars Attacks, and Beetljuice. Now it seems all he does is remakes and “reimagining’s”. Enough of the Alice, enough of the Wonka, enough of the Sweeny Todd, enough of Dark Shadows, enough of the things we’ve already seen time and time again.
(THREE) LEAVE JOHNNY DEPP ALONE
Johnny Depp needs to act in other movies. He keeps doing the same stuff and a big part of that is because of Tim Burton’s movies and the pirate movies. Depp is a great actor, but it seems like he’s taking the easy characters and easy money. If Tim Burton would cast a different lead in his movies it would give Depp a chance to explore other roles and open himself up to new things. Johnny Depp is great, but he could have been held in fair argument of “THE greatest”. The oversaturation of these same style characters puts a big damper on that.
(TWO) MORE LIKE EDWARD SCISSOR HANDS
I’m sure if Burton could capture the magic of this movie and bottle it up, he would. It feels like he’s been trying to recreate this movie over and over again in the guise of already known stories. There was a certain edge, heart, and greatness to Edward Scissor Hands. It was a perfect movie for the most part. It would be cool to see this genuine awe once again.
(ONE) NO FANTASY FOR ONE MOVIE
You see one recent Tim Burton movie and you’ve seen them all. It almost feels like they use the same sets and costumes now. It’s that same signature “Tim Burton-look” that makes young Hot Topic consumers tinkle a little. It was cool and fun, but now it’s like there is nothing else to do. When we hear Tim Burton is making something we can all picture it within a minute based on the set stereotypes he’s built up for himself. It would be quirky/dark, bright in its darkness, half spooky, half ironic, boring story, boring kid actors, vampire meets dignitary costumes, and Johnny Depp in make-up. I hate to prejudge, but this whole stereotype thing is sadly becoming easier and easier to imagine. I’ll just continue to do this, and save myself the $10 and the two very long hours.
