(FOUR) EPISODE 2: MELISSA MCCARTHY
Melissa McCarthy should have been a cast member on this show. She has a similar background as most of the folks. She did UCB and paid her dues. She went more the TV supporting star route and got her name out there. She’d eventually gain the lead on a sitcom and steal the best R-Rated female comedy of all time. On the show she charmed the hell out it. Her office crush sketch was hilarious and she proved she’d have no problem going that extra distance for a laugh. I hope she’s back on next year.
(THREE) EPISODE 10: JIMMY FALLON
The Christmas episode ended up being pretty food. Jimmy Fallon hosted the show, but brought in his friends to help out. This meant Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Tracy Morgan, Horatio Sanz, Chris Kattan, Rachel Dratch, and MORE showed up and contributed. The trip down memory lane and the music of Michael Buble made for a nice show. Maybe they could organize it to where Fallon hosts every Christmas episode. I’m all for that.
(TWO) EPISODE 7: JASON SEGEL
Jason Segel is always busy. He cranks out solid movies all of the time and is one of the stars of one of the best sitcoms on TV right now. He seems like such a cool guy and I can’t blame anyone for wanting to hire him and work with him. He proved his skills again on this episode. The “Massachusetts Afternoon” sketch may have been my favorite of the entire season. “New Jack Thanksgiving”. The family that makes out, and the segments with the Muppets were really fun too.
(ONE) EPISODE 22: MICK JAGGER
This was the best episode of the season for sure. I went into it knowing that it would be the last SNL appearance by a few folks, but I still didn’t expect all that much. I respect Mick Jagger and all of that, but I just never found him to be funny. They utilized him perfectly on this show. His impression of Steven Tyler was funny, the karaoke sketch was funny, and “The Californians” was perfectly good weird fun. It didn’t end there. The musical performances were solid and we surprise appearances from Jon Hamm, Steve Martin, Chris Parnell, Will Forte, and others. We were treated to “Lazy Sunday 2”, which blew my mind and needs to be rewatched as much as the first one. The closing segment was beautiful. I’ve been critical of Kristen Wiig in some cases, but I can’t deny her awesome contribution to the show. Is she the best female cast member of all time? It could be argued. The dancing portion at the end was really sweet and a great send off.
